What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are a standard in tooth replacement because they fit, feel and function like natural teeth. It is a metal post that replaces the root portion of a missing tooth. An artificial tooth, or “crown” is placed on an extension of the post on the dental implant, giving you the look of a real tooth. With regular flossing and brushing, they last 10-15 years. At that point, replacing them is a good idea due to wear and tear.

Are Tooth Implants Painful?

Dental implants the best options to replace missing or damaged teeth. The procedure itself is not painful since it is performed with either general or local anesthesia to completely numb the mouth. After dental implantation, once the numbness wears off, mild and temporary pain may be noticed by the patient for the next month or so.

Dentures vs. Dental Implants

Dental implants lead to fewer visits to the dentist because they're easier to maintain compared to dentures, requiring regular hygiene practices the way you would clean a real tooth. They feel more comfortable and look more natural than dentures. If you want to feel like you've never lost a tooth in the first place and be able to eat the same foods, dental implants are your best option.
